Christmas Candy Cane Treats

I decided to make some Christmas treats for my little baby and my niece. These were a hit..but I also made some for normal humans, so I had to be careful not to mix the 2! haha. These yummy treats came from the Ultimate Dog Treat Cookbook, (p. 74)

Striped Peppermint Christmas Canes

Ingredients:
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk
* 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/3 cup low-sodium chicken bouillon powder (I had to use regular)
* 2 large eggs
* 1 cup warm water
* 1 teaspoon red food coloring or dye alternative (optional)
* 1/2 teaspoon peppermint oil flavoring

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Mix together the 3 c. flour, 1/2 c. dry milk, 1/2 t. baking powder, 1/2 t. salt, 1/3 c. chicken bouillon.

3. Add the 2 eggs, 1 c. warm water, and mix well.

4. Knead dough for 2 minutes.

5. Form dough into 2 balls, set 1 aside. Add food coloring and peppermint to the other ball and work until mixed thoroughly.

6. Take a pinch of each color, roll into logs and twist into candy canes. The twisting takes A LOT of time, so I made some balls and added a smaller pinch of the opposite color to place on top. Flour helps from sticking because the dough is EXTRA sticky! I fridged mine for a couple hours before actually doing anything with it.

7. Place on a GREASED cookie sheet.

8. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until bottoms turn golden brown.

9. Remove from oven and let cool. Stor in airtight container.

*OPTIONAL: For crunchier treats: when all the cookies have baked, turn off oven and place all cookies back in warm oven. Leave them in the cooling oven for several hours or over night.

Doggy approved!
